With Ivo Assistant, you can create a repeatable Skill that turns any repeat task into something you can run with a click, or schedule to run all on its own.
Every legal team has certain tasks it needs to run exactly the same way, time after time, week after week: vendor review against the playbook, the renewal report for the business, a scan for new privacy rules. Ivo Assistant Skills is a function that can take the manual repetition out of these tasks and run can them repeatably, automatically, and consistently.
While a saved prompt is just text, a Skill contains much more. Skills bundle the instructions for a specific task along with everything else it needs to complete it, such as playbooks, Repository rooms, reference documents, and any necessary capabilities like web search and deep research. Skills only need to be set up once; after that, the entire workflow contained in the skill can be run immediately just by typing “/” and the name of the skill into Assistant.
What makes a Skill
A Skill is made of a few components. Only the first three are required, and the rest are addable as necessary to further hone it and add additional context.
- Name: This is what you type after “/” into Assistant when you want to run the Skill.
- Description: This says what the Skill does and when to use it. This is also what Assistant reads to decide when your plain-language request should trigger the Skill.
- Instructions: This should lay out the scope, steps, format, and requirements for the job, including how to use any attached files or tools.
- Playbooks: add up to three. For example, a contract review Skill might apply your MSA playbook by default, but a DPA playbook could also be added for when the agreement includes a DPA exhibit.
- Reference documents: Add up to 10 PDF or Word files as references for Assistant when running your Skill, along with guidance in the instructions on how to use them. If there is relevant information unique to that particular deal, you can add documents for just that run alone.
- Capabilities: Toggle these based on the accesses and capabilities your Skill needs, such web search, deep research, Repository access, and structured reports.
- Tags: Use these as labels to keep your Skills Library organized.
Build a Skill just by describing it
The easiest way to create a Skill is to ask Assistant to do it for you. Say what you need in plain language, and Assistant will draft the instructions.
For example, you can tell Assistant something like, “Create a Skill that reviews the agreement against my vendor agreement playbook, checks any hyperlinked terms, flags incorrect clause references or defined terms, and gives me a consolidated list of redline recommendations.” Assistant will draft the instructions for that skill for your review, and you can then attach your playbooks and reference documents.
If you already have a prompt you like, you can go to that and click “Convert to Skill” and Assistant will then walk you through the conversion. You can save a Skill just for yourself, or publish it to a team or the whole workspace.
Run Skills on a schedule
Set a personal Skill to run daily, weekly, or monthly, at any time you choose. For example, you can make a Skill that reviews every legislative and regulatory update relevant to your business from the past week, then delivers an actionable report at 9 a.m. each Tuesday. You can go a step further and have the same Skill that then compares each change against your DPA playbook, then recommends the playbook edits needed to stay compliant.
Start with Ivo’s Skills Library
The Skills Library automatically comes with 10 sample Skills, each built for a specific kind of legal work. Some example Skills are:
- Compare Vendor Contracts: compares a target contract against prior agreements with the same counterparty and flags deviations from positions you accepted before.
- Obligation and Renewal Tracker: surfaces upcoming deadlines, renewal windows, and expirations across your Repository.
- Commercial and GDPR Review: determines whether GDPR is in scope, runs a deep research pass if it is, benchmarks the agreement against prior deals, and produces a Word memo.
You can try these skills as written, or clone them and adjust it to the instructions to match how your team works.
Ivo customers are building with Skills
Skills have been available since July of 2026, and customers have already put them to work. Within days of launch, they had created hundreds of Skills across workspaces, with half of them focused on contract review or redlining.
Build your first Skill today
To build your first skill, you simply need to pick the task your team repeats most often, open Ivo Assistant, and describe it. Assistant will draft the Skill, and you attach the playbook or room it needs. Now, the next time that task comes up, you simply type “/” and the Skill name, and you’re good to go.
