"Ivo is like an extra headcount for a small legal team. It helps us scale and ramp up new team members quickly."

When Karina Rudnytsky joined Absorb, she became the company’s first in-house legal counsel. She was responsible for not only contracts, but also for compliance, information security, data privacy, IP, and risks across the business.
Prior to her joining, legal work had previously been handled by contract managers. Her legal team now consists of a contracts manager and a paralegal with no contract background. Most of the institutional knowledge about agreements lived in individual team members’ heads instead of in documented processes, which made applying consistent fallback positions difficult. At the same time, Absorb was also scaling fast - from roughly 300 to nearly 700 employees in just three years, with contract volume and complexity rising just as quickly.
Karina needed to scale the legal function despite having a lean legal team. She had to increase throughput, speed up review cycles, and free herself from day-to-day redlines so she could focus on higher-stakes work in privacy, AI governance, vendor review, and enterprise risk. And she had to maintain consistency and keep pace with the business without her department becoming a bottleneck.
To achieve these goals, Karina’s first step was implementing a contract lifecycle management (CLM) system. Prior to setting up the CLM, Absorb had tens of thousands of contracts stored in Salesforce, with no practical way to query key terms like early termination rights or breach notification obligations.
The CLM did solve a few problems including centralizing contracts, replacing legacy tools, and enabling basic reporting and workflows. However, when it came to day-to-day contract negotiation and redlining, it fell short. Redlining outputs were often unusable, replacing entire sections instead of making precise edits.
That gap is what pushed Karina to look beyond the CLM and evaluate specific AI contract review solutions. The team needed AI that could understand Absorb’s negotiating positions and produce context-aware redlines, playbook-aligned edits, and guidance that actually lightened the team’s workload.
“A lot of the other contract review vendors were lacking in their redlining functionality. Ivo was just surgical in its ability to redline.”
After evaluating multiple AI contract review vendors, it was clear that Ivo stood out. The product felt purpose-built for the real challenges legal teams face, and that focus showed up everywhere, from the quality of the experience to how intuitive it was to use.
The following capabilities resonated the most with the Absorb legal team:
Karina also appreciated that she was able to resolve more contracts and more requests with the same headcount, even with a member of her team going on maternity leave.
Ivo quickly streamlined the contract review process by enabling junior members of the legal team to be more self-sufficient. Instead of relying on Karina for every question or escalation, junior members could now run agreements through playbooks, ask Ivo to explain unfamiliar provisions, and review suggested redlines before escalating issues, dramatically reducing ramp time.
The results were immediate:
These gains came despite a contracts manager going on maternity leave, onboarding a fractional lawyer, and increasing deal complexity.
With Ivo handling much of the day-to-day review, Karina is now able to shift her focus toward higher-impact initiatives including data privacy, AI governance, vendor risk, and strategic guidance across the business.
