2026 Analyst Report

Gartner® Hype Cycle™ for Procurement and Sourcing Solutions

See procurement and sourcing technologies rated on maturity, benefit, and years to mainstream adoption, so you can separate what’s fundable now from what should be adopted in a few years.

Three takeaways from the report

01

The roadmap is being redrawn around agents

Autonomous procurement has been replaced by multiagent systems, and automated negotiations is new at the Innovation Trigger. Intake management is marked obsolete as a standalone market, because larger platforms have absorbed it.

If your technology roadmap was written eighteen months ago, several of the categories on it no longer exist in the shape you bought them.

02

The proven end of the curve is where the near-term money is

“This year’s Hype Cycle highlights core technologies such as contract life cycle management and source-to-pay (S2P) suites, both of which have reached the Plateau of Productivity where proven benefits and adoption signal a prime investment window for risk-averse organizations.”

“Meanwhile, category management, intake management, tail spend solutions, and autonomous sourcing sit atop the Peak of Inflated Expectations, generating excitement and potential but also uncertainty.”

Our read: the constraint is commercial ground truth

Boards are pushing CPOs toward agents, and the report is blunt about what those agents can actually do today:

“Beware of ‘agent washing’: Don’t assume any significant autonomy of AI agents in procurement. At best, agents are semiautonomous; often they are only LLM-augmented workflows.”

We’d add a second constraint that we think matters more, which is that agents can only act on parameters somebody has defined. The report says as much when it notes that automated negotiation tools “require clear parameters, such as acceptable payment or pricing terms, which many procurement teams may not have fully defined.”

Those parameters already exist in your contracts — what you’ve accepted on liability, how often you’ve conceded on payment terms, which agreements auto-renew and when, what the rate card says versus what you’re being billed. Every one of them is a position your organization already took, and none of it is in a form an agent or a person under deadline can use.

So the real sequencing question for 2027 budget isn’t which agent to pilot, but whether the commercial record underneath it can be read at all.

How each one is rated on benefit, market penetration, maturity, and years to mainstream adoption
Why multiagent systems replaced autonomous procurement, and what that changes about how agentic capability gets built
What’s driving and what’s blocking adoption of AI agents, generative AI, autonomous sourcing, and automated negotiations
The Priority Matrix, which maps every technology to benefit and timeline so you can sequence investment

Who should read this

Chief Procurement Officers

You’re being asked what procurement’s plan for AI is, and need a map with maturity ratings attached.

Procurement & Sourcing Leaders

You’re sequencing a roadmap across two budget cycles and need to know what’s ready now and what isn’t.

Procurement Operations

You own the systems the function runs on, so it’s worth seeing where those categories are heading — including the ones being absorbed.

Why we’re sharing this

Ivo is listed as a Sample Vendor in the Advanced Contract Analytics category of this report, and we believe that reflects where we’ve focused: turning executed agreements into something a team can act on rather than something a team can only search.

Ivo is an AI contract review and contract intelligence platform. Procurement teams use us to:

Review vendor paper against a playbook
Find out what the organization has agreed to before they negotiate
Catch renewals before they renew themselves
